Our Story

A Tag that Gets Them Home

When we adopted our energetic Border Collie, Tilly, at nine weeks old, we did what most new pet parents do: we blindly ordered a tag online because we thought it looked good.

It arrived, and within weeks, reality set in. The cheap aluminium tag scratched so badly it became unreadable. Worse, it came with a flimsy split ring that distorted under pressure. One afternoon at the park, the ring bent, the tag vanished, and we were left with a gut-wrenching realisation: if Tilly got lost right now, no one would know how to bring her home.

Chalking it up to bad luck, we replaced it with the exact same style of tag. When the same thing happened a second time, we knew it wasn’t bad luck. It was bad quality and bad design.

Most pet tags are treated like fashion accessories. They’re printed with ink or made from soft metals that degrade under sunlight, water, and rough play. But identification isn’t an accessory, it’s an act of love and responsibility. The day your pet needs their tag to work, it must be legible.

That challenge stayed with us for years. When a corporate curveball unexpectedly came, it gave us the time to bring a better tag solution to life. Sticky Gecko ID was born.

Meet the Team

We’re a family of four based on Wallumattagal lands in Sydney, with a genuine love for animals.

• Mike: founder, creator, and pet owner.
• Miss 10: our official packing assistant and loved human sibling of Tilly.
• Tilly (the Border Collie): our 4-year-old inspiration. She proudly wears the titles of Chief Testing Officer, Morning Alarm Clock, Ball Chaser, and Head of Studio Security.

Every Sticky Gecko ID tag is crafted with care and absolute precision right here in our Sydney studio. Our signature tags we use high grade 304 stainless steel and advanced fibre laser technology to deeply engrave the metal. We don't print on top of the tag; we cut the information permanently into the steel. It won’t fade, it won't scratch off, and it won't let you down when it matters most.

We don’t import mass produced, printed plastic or soft aluminium blank tags.

We design our tags for maximum legibility, keeping layouts clean and purposeful so a finder can read your contact details in a single glance.
